How it started

The tree nobody wanted.

We were removing invasive Eastern red cedar trees when we noticed the irony: an unattractive exterior, and inside, gorgeous color, grain and character. These trees are dangerous to our environment, but they don’t need to rot away. That’s when Jodi Wood Artisans was born.

We think of every possible use for each tree, limbs for turnings and stumps for table bases, and a portion of our proceeds goes to not-for-profits focused on forest preservation.

Ready-made pieces

One of a kind, by design.

Live-edge lumber takes more work and never comes out the same twice. Every piece below is a starting point: the price is where it begins, and the grain decides the rest.

Under $100, too: coasters, state-shaped cutting boards, cheese slicers, bottle openers, cedar birdhouses, heart clocks and more, starting at $15.

Your idea, our wood.

We love to take a customer’s vision and make it a reality: vanities, countertops, bar stools, mantles and dining tables. A 50% deposit starts the project.

Visit the shop

Come see it in person.

After years of working out of our garages, we built a 40x40 temperature-controlled woodworking shop on Joel’s land in SE Norman, with a display area where you can see and touch the finished work.

In spring 2025 we added chickens, then goats, then a Great Pyrenees livestock guard dog. If you’re ever in SE Norman, stop by and see us. Just get in touch first so we’re there.

Good questions

Before you ask.

Who makes everything?

We do! Joel and Diane are hands-on from harvesting the tree to finishing each item.

Where does the wood come from?

Mostly from local farms and properties where the trees aren’t sustainable, are dangerous to their surroundings, or are reclaimed.

Can you ship?

Yes and no. We can ship most items, but some of the bigger tables just aren’t cost-effective to ship. Check with us.

What finishes do you use?

Food-safe oil and wax on cutting boards, coasters and charcuterie boards; exterior finishes on outdoor tables and benches; satin or gloss poly where it needs to be tough.
